My wife and I are trying to have a baby and my dermatologist wants to put me on Accutane. I don’t have real bad acne – mainly on my back. I know women should not take Accutane if they are trying to get pregnant. Could any harm come to a fetus if the father is taking Accutane?

I don’t know that any tests have been done to
examine the effects of birth defects when the male is
using Accutane…When my brother was on Accutane his
derm told him NOT to get anyone pregnant while on it.
I have also seen it written on several Accutane
information sites that males should avoid fathering a child
while on it. I have been on it 42 days now, my husband
and I were also trying to get pregnant before I
started but my acne was so painful that we decided to put
our plans on hold for a while so I could go through
treatment. I am not a doctor but I would think, better safe
than sorry if I were you. Have you seen the pictures
of the potential birth defects? SCARY! Good luck
